Booking questions and policies:
When are you open for booking?
Our open season runs from mid-February to mid-December each year. The Gray Barn is open from Thursday to Sunday each week. We aren’t able to offer individual room stays on other days of the week. If you wish to extend a full rental, please ask and we will see if we can accommodate your request!
Is the Gray Barn accessible via public transportation?
The Gray Barn is located in a rural, non-walkable area and is not easily accessed by public transportation. We strongly recommend having your own form of transportation while staying at The Gray Barn, as rideshare apps and taxis may be unreliable.
If you do plan to take public transportation, Trailways in New Paltz is the closest bus station. Amtrak and Metro North train stations are on the other side of the river in Rhinebeck and Poughkeepsie. You will need to take a taxi to The Gray Barn from these locations.
Do I have to be a member to book?
Yes, stays at The Gray Barn are a benefit to current members of Woodstock Farm Sanctuary. If you aren't a member, please visit
Woodstock Sanctuary memberships to become one before booking!
How do I cancel or reschedule my booking?
All Bookings are final. Due to the limited availability at The Gray Barn we are unable to accommodate requests for stay date changes or offer credit for future bookings. Please be sure of your stay dates before booking!
If you need to cancel your stay please refer to the cancellation policy below and reach out to us at info@thegraybarn.org.
Cancellation Policy: Payments are 50% refundable up to 7 days prior to the start of your stay, and not refundable after that point. A forfeited deposit may be re-classified as a tax-deductible donation to Woodstock Farm Sanctuary if the booking must be canceled unexpectedly.
Can my children stay at the Gray Barn?
When booking individual room stays, all guests must be over the age of 12. Children of all ages are welcome when you book the entire inn for a
Full Rental weekend.
Can I bring my dog or other animal to the Gray Barn?
For the comfort and safety of our guests and rescued animals, no companion animals are allowed at the Gray Barn or Woodstock Farm Sanctuary property. This includes emotional support animals (ESAs).
When is check in and check out?
Check-in starts at 3PM the day of your stay. Check-out is 11AM
Common spaces, food and accommodations:
Can I bring my own food into the Gray Barn?
Yes, feel free to store items in the fridge, access the microwave, and use any of the plates and cups on the shelves.
*We are a 100% vegan organization. Out of respect for our rescued animal residents, please do not bring any non-vegan food into your room or onto the property. If you have any questions about this, please email info@thegraybarn.org and we will be more than happy to help.
Can I hang out in the living room?
Yes! Common spaces, including the living room, upstairs seating area, and deck are for all guests to enjoy.
Please respect quiet hours from 10pm-8am in common areas.
Do you serve breakfast or other meals?
Breakfast is included with individual room rentals. Breakfast is prepared fresh each morning and will be available from 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM. Please make us aware of any allergies before your stay. Our kitchen is always 100% vegan, but we do use nuts and gluten in our kitchen and there may be cross-contamination.
We do not serve lunch or dinner in the Gray Barn—check out “NEARBY” for our favorite restaurants in the area.
Sanctuary grounds and tours:
Can I take a tour of the Sanctuary?
Yes, we offer group tours of the Sanctuary just for Gray Barn guests, regardless of the Sanctuary’s public visiting season. Tour times vary depending on the season.
Gray Barn guests are also welcome to join public tours for free.
If our available tour times do not align with your stay, you are welcome to join a tour before you check in or after you check out.
Do I need to book a tour in advance?
No. We will email you the week of your stay with available group tour times. You are welcome to join any of these tours without signing up in advance.
If you are interested in booking a private tour of the Sanctuary without other guests,
please book in advance here. Private tours are not included in the cost of your stay.
Can I walk around Woodstock Sanctuary without a tour?
Yes! You are welcome to walk the grounds of the Sanctuary throughout your stay.
Is smoking allowed at the inn?
Smoking and vaping are prohibited in all parts of the inn and on sanctuary grounds, including the deck and terraces; guests who violate this policy will be assessed a $500 cleaning fee. If you wish to smoke, please do so at least 50 feet from any building entrances or exits, and please dispose of cigarette butts or trash safely in the proper receptacle.
